Verizon plans on almost doubling its mmWave 5G coverage this 2021. Verizon has got very huge 5G plans for 2021 after initially releasing its next-gen network in October 2020 and near to the top of its list of preferences is extending coverage of its ultra-fast mmWave coverage.
The flavor of 5G is restricted recently to certain areas within some chosen cities in the United States. And it is really unable to do without your proximity to a Verizon 5G site because of the intrinsic technology that powers it.
Traded under 5G Ultra-Wideband (5G UW), this kind of 5G is the kind having high speed but bad coverage. This simply means that Verizon has its work cut for it extending network coverage in 2021.
Verizon plans on almost doubling its mmWave 5G coverage this 2021
However, in its earnings report this week, Verizon mentioned it has got plans to nearly double its 5G UW network this 2021 by including over 14,000 new sites.
Now, it is kind of puzzling what a site really means. Including a 5G UW site, in theory, sounds like a way to extend the coverage area of the service, or even at the very least to upgrade the connection strength in an existing area of coverage.
Considering that mmWave depends on setting up networks of power supplies, antennas. And other equipment to assist in boosting the range as well as blanket areas. That is currently served only by moderate and wide standard LTE as well as low-band 5G.
Apparently, some of the equipment is already displaying on the lawns of the residents in Houston unannounced. Who does not really have any say in if their slice of the county-owned yard has to play host to the “ground fixtures” the chest cooler size?
Still, it is not so clear whether Verizon has any plans at all on adding test sites mainly to upgrade the range. As well as the steadiness of the network in active markets. To introduce coverages completely to the current ones or even a mix of the two.
The company to double its coverage area to exactly 30,000 sites by the end of 2021
With all that mentioned. Verizon is in effect, saying it would double its coverage area to exactly 30,000 sites by the end of 2021. Verizon also mentioned that it is planning on including 20 cities to its 5G UW coverage list. And also 20-plus cities for its in-home 5G internet service.
It seems like it will be done through the extension of the site to some extent. Last month, Verizon exceeded its 60 city milestone for its 5G UW network. And this week, it mentioned that prepaid customers can as well start accessing its 5G UW network also.
