SNAP, also known as the “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program” is a program that was formerly known as “food stamps”. This program is a federal nutrition program that was created to help you stretch your food budget and to also purchase healthy foods.
The benefits of snap can be used to buy or purchase food at grocery stores, convenience stores. As well as farmers’ markets and co-op food programs. Its benefits are given to you each month on a plastic card called the EBT (electronic benefits transfer) card. The EBT card works like a debit card. Paper coupons are not used anymore.
Electronic Benefits Transfer being abbreviated as “EBT” is an electronic system. It enables a recipient to authorize the transfer of their government benefits from a federal account to a retailer account. So as to pay for the product received. This system has been implemented in all states since June 2004.
A SNAP EBT Card can be defined as the manner through which benefits are being distributed to eligible participants in the SNAP. The card works more like a debit card and it also enables program participants to buy food with their benefits at authorized retail stores.
