Opera’s Desktop Versions
Opera has several versions of its browser. They are listed below:
The version 2.0 was the first general release of Opera Mini and it was released as a shareware. This was in 1996. There were popular demands and the Opera Software had interest in programming its browser substitute operating systems.
The operating systems were Apple Macintosh, BeOS and QNX. They later launched “Project Magic”; an effort to know who would volunteer to buy a copy of their browser in their company’s operating system. They also embarked on this project to appropriately share funds to outsource or develop for such operating systems.
On the 30th of November, 1997, the company closed voting for which operating system to develop with. This decision automatically made Project Magic a news column for updates for substitute operating systems until version 4 was developed.
Opera 3.5 was launched, with file upload capability and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) support added to it. Up to version 6.0, Opera has supported most common web standards, some other recent standards such as WML and WAP for wireless and Netscape plugins.

A 2004 review in The Washington Post described the Opera 7 version as being too complex and hard to use. The review also criticized the free edition’s use of advertisements when other web browsers such as Safari and Mozilla were offered free of charge without including advertisements.
In August 2004, the version went through limited alpha testing. It was found out that the version had more advanced supports and even a voice support for Opera as well as VoiceXML was included in its features.
There was also a dynamic resizing of pages by making texts or images smaller. This made it possible for texts to fit into any screen, especially smaller ones. This version was never launched as an official version.
