Need for Speed, also known by its initials NFS, is a racing video game franchise published by Electronic Arts. The game is, however, currently developed by Ghost Games. Then its first title, Need for Speed was released in 1994. While its most recent game was released on November 10, 2017, titled Need for Speed payback.

Furthermore, the game series centers around illicit street racing and in general tasks players to complete various types of races. Players are expected to do this while evading the local law enforcement in police pursuits.

Having sold over 150 million copies of games. The franchise has been critically well received and is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Following its strong sales, the franchise has expanded into other forms of media. Other forms including a film adaptation and licensed Hot Wheels toys.

Need For Speed Payback, like the other series is a racing video game developed by Ghost Games and published by Electronic Arts. The game runs on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, the game is the most recent and also the twenty-third installment in the Need for Speed series. It was released worldwide, on November 10, 2017.

Need For Speed Payback which is focused on “action driving” is set in an open world environment of Fortune Valley. It has three playable characters, each with different sets of skills, working together to pull off action movie like sequences. Unlike the previous game, it also features a 24-hour day-night cycle.

However, Payback includes an offline single-player mode which was not available on the 2015 Need for Speed reboot.

Furthermore, Need For Speed Payback features a total of 74 cars, all manufacturers except Toyota (including the Scion brand) and Ferrari return. Reason owing to the aforementioned two manufacturers unable to return due to licensing issues. While some manufacturers who returned after not appearing in the 2015 installment includes Aston Martin, Audi, Buick, Jaguar, Koenigsegg, Land Rover, Mercury, Mini, Pagani, and Plymouth.

Payback soundtrack features 2017 most popular artists and songs, including A$AP Ferg, Action Bronson, Barns Courtney, Gorillaz, Jacob Banks, Jaden Smith, Nothing but Thieves, Queens of the Stone Age, Rae Sremmurd, Royal Blood, Run the Jewels, Skepta, Spoon, Post Malone and X Ambassadors.  It also features DJ Shadow & Nas song “Systematic“, which was created for the Mike Judge television series Silicon Valley.


According to The NPD GroupPayback was the eighth best-selling title in the United States for the month of November 2017.
