California is reported to have placed an antitrust investigation into the worldwide popular United States multinational technology company, Google, Politico reports. This simply means that the company is currently facing an antitrust thorough investigation. As well as study from all the states in the United States of America bar one.
Though, the main aspect of the company in which California’s attorney general will be investigating is not yet revealed. However, recent scrutiny is centered on the company’s dominance. As well as its conduct in the ad tech market and the search market also. The acquisition is not left out either.
Google is Currently Facing a New Antitrust Probe from California
The investigations Google is facing from California would be the latest and the newest antitrust investigation that the company will ever face. Before then, 50 states and territories attorneys general already made mention that there will be an antitrust investigation into Google’s advertising. As well as its search businesses, the attorneys general made these announcements last September.
Though, the only two states that were not involved in the investigation (probe) at that time were Alabama and California. The fact that California didn’t participate in the probe was really notable. This was because the state houses Google’s Mountain View headquarters. This news simply means that Alabama is the only state in the US that is not placing an antitrust investigation into Google.
However, California’s investigation into Google will be different from the one that was announced last year.
The Justice Department’s Announcement
The Justice Department’s broad antitrust review announced also into Big Tech which has focused on Google. And the department is really working hands-to-hands with the state-level inspection. It made this announcement last summer.
Last September, Google did confirm its involvement in the examination of the Justice Department. Just after it mentioned that it was asked to release detailed information as to the federal agency. Following Politico’s comment, a suit from the Justice Department might arrive net month. However, it still remains untold if the investigation of the multi-state will still continue differently.
Scrutiny also came from congress. Here, Sunar Pichai, (Google’s CEO) is supposed to attest later this month as a member of the House Judiciary antitrust subcommittees’ inquiry. Apple’s CEO, Facebook’s CEO, as well as the CEO of Amazon, have also accepted to attest as part of the investigation.
The FCT’s comment to Google, Facebook, and Amazon
The FTC told Google, Facebook, and Amazon also to turn over the confirmation that was made into their acquisitions as well as their mergers.
A spokesperson for the California Attorney General and Google also rejected to comment on Politico on its report. A spokesperson for the attorney general mentioned something to Gizmodo. He said: “To protect the integrity of our work. It’s our practice not to comment on any pending or potential investigation, even to confirm or deny their existence”.
Apart from hosting Google’s headquarters, an antitrust examination by California is really very important and vital. The reason is that the state has so many staff that are so committed and devoted to antitrust and competition investigations. As well as Politico notes and its Cartwright Act and Unfair Competition Act antitrust laws have been interpreted widely compared to the federal antitrust law in past times.
