Google is Cracking Down on Scammy Play Store App Listings. Google has announced the latest Play Store policies and guidelines too that was designed to make app listings more correct, concise, and less of an eyesore too.
The latest guideline that are affecting the screenshots and videos are meant to show an app’s features and the functionality will come into action in the 2nd half of 2021.
While the specific information about the implementation of new policies for icons, app titles as well as descriptions are coming in soon.
The latest app metadata policies will prohibit different kinds of tricks that the app developers use in making their app listings so enticing.
You won’t be allowed to write words in all-caps too. You will only be able to do that if it is the name of a brand. And you won’t be able to add emoji in app names as well.
The app titles will also be limited to 30 characters. And they can’t “incentivize installs” by adding a phrase just like “download now”. Any deal you try to promote by adding a “Sale” banner in an app icon is banned as well.

But when the policies that are governing icon, app title, and developer name finally comes into action. Google made it clear that apps that go against the policies “will not be allowed on Google Play”.
The company also made it clear that more information on the changes will come in later in the year.
Differently, the latest guidelines concerning app preview assets will still come into force in the second half of the year.
These guidelines demand that videos, graphics, as well as short descriptions correctly, represent apps and games, do not use buzzwords like “best or free”. Provide enough information to users and are accurately localized.
Google also says that:
“Assets that don’t meet our guidelines may be eligible for promotion and recommendation on major Google Play surfaces. Like Apps and Games home”.
