Apple TV 4K. The Apple TV 4K is here now! And this device comes with so many upgrades which include the HDMI 2.1, the A12 chip, high frame rate HDR, Thread, a completely redesigned Siri Remote, and many more.
The New Apple TV 4K vs the Old One.
The Old Apple TV 4K was released far back in 2017 with the A10X chip and its remote was almost the same Siri Remote included with the 2015 Apple TV HD.
While the Old one launched with support for new features like Dolby Vision/HDR10, Dolby Atmos, and many more.
No changes for close to 4 years meant the set-top box was well past due for an upgrade. Most especially at a starting price of $179.
Together with adopting the newest standards like the Thread, HDMI 2.1, WiFi 6, and many more. A primary change with the latest Apple TV 4K is the newly improved Siri Remote having an aluminum design.
Ability to control TVs and receivers, a new five-way navigation click pad, and many more.
All-new Siri Remote
The newly improved Siri Remote comes with a redesigned 5-way click pad. However, it still operates with touch gestures for quick control. Also, the outer ring is handy for seeking backward and forward.
The Siri button has been shifted to the side (just like the modern iPhones) and now it has a dedicated power as well as a mute button with the Menu button renamed to a “<” (back) button.
The Siri remote is a little bit slimmer, taller, and thicker than the former Siri Remote. One of its useful features is the support for controlling TVs and receivers through CEC.
Though that was available on the former Siri remote. However, the dedicated power button makes it very much convenient with the latest Siri remote.
But, one of the downsides is the fact that Apple removes the accelerometer and the 3-way gyroscope with the latest Siri Remote.
I guess it is thinking that those who love gaming with Apple TV are likely to make use of a PlayStation controller or an Xbox.
The newly upgraded Siri Remote comes together with the new Apple TV 4K, the Apple TV HD too and it will be sold separately for $59 also.
Apple TV 4K Pricing and Release Date
The new Apple TV 4K is at the same price as the former model. It is priced at $179 for the 32GB version and priced at $199 for the 64GB version.
Apple also mentioned that orders will open on the 30th of April, 2021. While deliveries will commence in the second half of May.
While Apple keeps being high-priced than its rest 4K streaming competitors like the Amazon Fire, Roku, and many more, Apple is likely looking up to customers who are committed to the Apple ecosystem being willing to pay the premium.
