Apple Launches its Free Coding Courses and Materials for Educators

Apple has now revealed its plans for a new and free resource. This will help teachers and educators to be able to teach or coach both Xcode and Swift. Apple’s newest educational initiative is Swift and Xcode. They are aimed at helping and encouraging students to learn app development.

In two days’ time. That is, on the 13th of July, Apple will commence free online training to educators as well as teachers. This will surely serve as an intro to Apple’s Develop in Swift curriculum. Though the curriculum has been perfectly redesigned to meet the learning styles of so many students. Based on the feedback that the users give, Apple says.

He further added that the new series will now have four books. These books include: “Develop in Swift Explorations”, “Develop in Swift AP CS Principles”, “Develop in Swift Fundamentals”, and also “Develop in Swift Data Collections”. According to Apple, though, the first, second, and third books are now available in Apple Books. However, the fourth book, which is “Develop in Swift Data Collections” will be available later in the Apple Books.

Why Apple created Coding Courses and Materials for Education.

This curriculum was mainly and specially built or created for secondary school students and higher level (University) students. And it is centered mainly on the open-source programming language Swift which Apple-designed and also using Xcode on the Mac.

Another amazing thing about Apple’s new coding course is that it also enables younger learners to learn to code. Younger learners from Grade 4 to Grade 8 will be taught how to use puzzles and games. They will also teach them the building blocks of coding in Swift using the Swift Playgrounds app. Isn’t that interesting? Also, the course is expanded.

As a student, if you have completed or you are through with the “Everyone can Code Puzzles” book, then only can you move to the next book, which is the “Everyone Can Code Adventures”. The “Everyone Can Code Adventure” book contains a whole lot of Advanced activities which gives students the opportunity to practice building with Swift even while they learn some vital programming concepts.

Schools in the US to adopt a new style of learning online.

Schools and Colleges in the United States of America have now adopted a new style of learning. That is online learning which they adopted due to the coronavirus pandemic which caused total lockdown worldwide.

However, the US’ new style of learning might continue for the rest semester for all universities and colleges. Harvard University already announced that it will be conducting its 2020 and its 2021 academic year online.

Why the Coding course will be good for Kids

Exposing so many kids to this coding concept may help to bring out their talent or love for programming which they didn’t discover earlier. And this interest can now be nurtured through future education and courses while the child grows.

Apple’s vice president of Markets, Apps, and Services, in the person of Susan Prescott, says. “Apple has worked alongside educators for 40 years. We’re are also proud to see how ‘Develop in Swift and Everyone Can Code’ have been instrumental in helping teachers and students make an impact in their communities”.

Susan Prescott mentioned in a statement: “We’ve seen community college students build food security apps for their campus and watched middle school educators host virtual coding clubs over summer break”.

She further added saying: “As part of our commitment to helping expand access to computer science education, we are thrilled to be adding a new professional learning course. To help more educators, regardless of their experience, have the opportunity to learn to code and teach the next generation of developers and designers”.
