Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game franchise, created by Yuji Naka, Naota Ohshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara. Further published by Sega and developed by Sega, Sonic Team, Dimps, Traveler’s Tales, SIMS Co., Ltd., Backbone Entertainment, Bioware, and the Sumo Digital.
Sonic the Hedgehog was first released on June 23, 1991 by the Sega Genesis and the latest version, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice was released on September 27, 2016. The game, Sonic the Hedgehog, genres are racing, puzzle, sports, party, and adventure. Sonics’ sliding, jumping, avoiding obstacles, and actions makes Sonic the Hedgehog an interesting game.
The protagonist of the game is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog, Sonic. He is a peaceful hedgehog that enjoys being with his friends; Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. But their fun moment is usually interrupted by the games’ main antagonist, Doctor Eggman. Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles must stop Doctor Eggman’s evil plans of world domination.
The first ever released series, that was released in 1991, was devised by Sega’s Sonic Team division after the request of a mascot character, the title was successful and spawned lot more stories that transformed Sega into the world’s leading video game company at the 16bit era during the 1990s.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Sonic Boom series are subsets of Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. Sonic Mania and Project Sonic, after lots of series released in the year 2016, are scheduled to be released in the year 2017. Sega Genesis (1991-1996)
Sonic the Hedgehog is the first sonic game, it was a platform game released in 1991. This series featured Him running through challenging scenarios in other to stop Doctor Eggman from taking over the world. The game focus is his great ability of running and jumping at impressively high speed using loops, springs and checkpoints.
The aftermath of Sonic the Hedgehog resulted the devise of Sonic the hedgehog 2, a platform game released in 1992. Sonic the hedgehog 2 became the second best-selling Genesis game of all time; it introduced Sonic’s second man, Miles Tails Power. Miles followed Sonic throughout all challenging scenarios and allowed to be controlled by a second player.
This series introduced a special ability; the sonic spin-dash maneuver. It allowed Sonic to boost forward quickly unlike the first series where he gains speed with momentum.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was a third platform of the game released in 1994. A temporary shield maneuver was introduced and a new character Knuckles the Echidna. Knuckles served as an antagonist together with Doctor Eggman in the game.

Sega Saturn (1996-1998)
Some amazing sonic games were released for the Sega Saturn, but not the same standard platform as that of the Sega genesis sonic games. Such games include Sonic 3D Blast, it was released in 1996 together with the Genesis version. The Saturn devised edition uses isometric 2.5D graphics with FMV cut-scenes, standard music, visual effects and real-time 3D special stage. Also, Sonic Jam; released for the Saturn in 1997, Sonic R; released in 1997 and converted to PC versions in 1998.
An attempt to release Sonic X-treme and Sony’s Crash Bandicoot by the Sega Technical Institute was taught of. But due to time constraint, the project was canceled in the closing months of 1996.

Modern Era (2006-2009)
The Nintendo DS released Sonic Rush in the year 2005, a similar game to Sonic Advance series. The series was further upgraded and named Sonic Rush Adventures in the year 2007, and feature some new elements which are jet skis and submarines. The Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games was released in late 2007 and it emphasized on winter based sports. Sonic Chronicles; The dark Brotherhood, released in 2008 was a spin-off of Sonic Chronicles and was developed by BioWare.
Sonic Generations, developed by Sonic Team for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PCs, and Dimps for Nintendo 3DS was released in November 2011.

Sonic The Hedgehog
He is the protagonist of the Hedgehog Series. He is a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog with the ability to run at supersonic speed and curl into a strong ball for attacking enemies.
Doctor Eggman is an evil scientist and the main antagonist of the series, Sonic the Hedgehog. He is also known as Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik and his plan was to conquer the world and to establish his own Eggman Empire.

The Chaos Emeralds are seven emeralds with mystical powers. The Chaos emerald enables the holder to give energy to all living things around, warp time and space by the chaos control technique, and turn imaginations and thoughts into Power.

Item Boxes contains power ups. To collect them, the player have to destroy the box, the items contained are indicated on the box. Item boxes contains incredible power ups, always achieve them in Sonic the Hedgehog.
Giant rings also known as the Warp Rings, they serve as portals to enter a special stage where players get to collect a chaos emerald.
Checkpoints are placed throughout the stages in the series’ games, it serves as progress markers. When the player comes across a checkpoint, the game is saved and if the player character loses a life, the character returns to the last checkpoint.
The game contains some conventional animals which are often used by Doctor Eggman as organic batteries to power up his robot armies. The player frees animals that are trapped by hitting the robots and destroying its metal case.

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
It was an American animated TV Series that was broadcast in September 1993. This animated series followed the brash adventure of Sonic and Tails as they stop Doctor Eggman’s from taking over the planet.
In 1999, Sonic Underground ran for 40 episodes. Sonic and his two siblings, Manic and Sonia, made use of the power of music to fight Doctor Eggman and to reunite with their mother.
In October 2013, Sonic Boom was produced by OuiDo Productions and uses all major characters of the series. It was aired on November 8, 2014 by Cartoon Network.
